Tools, Wear and Repair

I created a series of prints based around the idea of Tools of the Trade. As a printmaker and also running my own workshop, I have always needed to be able to maintain tools and equipment. I have enjoyed the independence gained from being able to for example, sharpen my own tools. This got me thinking about how empowering tools can be, particularly for woman. Tools such as a sewing machine and having the ability to use it, can mean that someone can make or repair clothes, make a living, support a family.

Materials and techniques

I produced this series of prints using Etching and Drypoint and Carborundum techniques. I focused mainly on domestic tools that would be traditionally used by women. This is partly due to the fact that there have been several members of my close and extended family who have been dressmakers and costumiers.
